Biology
The Kri'Sharan are amphibians, though they prefer to inhabit water with high concentrations of silicon. They nourish on blood, which is consumed through fangs hidden underneath their "masks". Females are equipped with a needle on the wrist containing a natural sedative left behind from the times of having a hunter/gatherer society. Both genders have three fingers on each hand, two of which are thumbs. Each thumb has four segments, while middle fingers have 6.
The masks originally evolved to protect the vulnerable fangs, but became a subject of rumours and myths when they achieved interstellar travel, often believed by outsiders to be impenetrable to magic weapons.
Kri'Sharan are technically blind, and navigate using echolocation organs located between their fangs.
Culture
The Kri'Sharan in Daetrim live in a matriarchal society, a remnant from their evolution, when females took care of the hunting. Before they constructed space-faring vessels, they were separated into tribes, later turned into nations. As they colonized the rest of Daetrim, the separate nations united into an oligarchy with lesser councils on each colony world, and a greater council on Sharan, with members picked from the most intelligent. Despite their advanced society, they have never moved to colonize beyond their native solar system.

The Kri'Sharan have a seat on the UCG, and take a special interest in the abolishment of slavery within all cultures. One of their primary imports is blood, as the blood of different species are consider delicacies on Sharan.
Though they are largely peaceful, some, especially females, have taken up carriers as bounty hunters, or even mercenaries, often specializing in capturing bounties alive. Whenever a contractor hires them for killing, they will feast on the blood of the victim.
History
The Kri'Sharan evolved in the oceans of Sharan in the Daetrim system, located 3000 parsecs from the galactic center. During their bronze age, its estimated that more than 60% of the population were enslaved to the Setarri. As the Setarri hold on their colonies weakened, a Kri'Sharan named Kolni'n led a slave rebellion, and drove the last of the Setarri stragglers out of the system. Kolni'n would later go on to become an idol of worship in their religion, though his name was changed to Kalna'san, Kri'na for "She who led the enslaved" (By the time of Twilight Sparkle's birth, this religion has receded, and is now only practiced by a minority). The Kri'Sharan later reverse-engineered the Setarri technology, and used it to settle the rest of the system. In 4 000 after Kolni'n's rebellion, a Vaiu artist randomly came across Daetrim in his search for an artistic muse, and relations were established with the Citadel. 80 years later, the Kri'Sharan were granted a seat in the UCG.
